Grids in design11/21/2023 There are two types of column grids that are used in a design – Symmetric Column Grid and Asymmetric Column Grid. The gutter space should be consistent throughout the layout.Ĭolumn grid is most popular in magazines and newspapers, and it performs well when the content being presented is discontinuous, placing different information in different columns. Placement of images may vary as per the design requirements and can be placed over one or more columns. In the column grid, content and images are placed as per the vertical flow of lines and make up the columns. Choosing the number of columns is totally dependent on the amount and type of content and how you want to distribute the content so that it is legible. Increasing the number of columns gives more flexibility to the design.
